Obituary of Jerome D. Mathews

Jerome “Jerry ” D. Mathews 66, of Nyssa died October 12, 2018 at his home. He is the son of John and Mary Mathews. He grew up on a farm outside of Kenton, Ohio. He moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he attended Colorado State University and graduated with B.S. in Vocational Agriculture. He met his wife of 44 years, Dona, at the CSU Dairy where they both worked while attending school. After graduating, they moved back to Kenton, Ohio, where they bought some Holsteins and rented a dairy barn and milked cows for 4 years. Homesick for the west, they loaded up their cows and crossed the states landing in Nyssa, OR, where they purchased the Glen Peterson Dairy, April 1, 1980. They switched from dairy cows to beef cows around 2001, building up a small herd of quality Red Angus, Jerry’s pride and joy. Jerry also worked off the farm as a truck driver, first for Stan Bybee, then Clint Koplin, ending up working many years for the Teague Mineral Products. He is survived by his wife, Dona Mathews; daughter Anna Mathews; son Jake Mathews, and granddaughter, Alyssa, all of Nyssa, OR. He is also survived by his brothers, John Dave (Monica) Mathews, State College, PA; Joe Mathews, Klamath Falls, OR; Tony Mathews, Kenton, OH; Scott (Leann) Mathews, Kenton, OH, and multiple other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Mathews. Services will be held at Nyssa LDS Church at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2018. Arrangements by Lienkaemper Chapel, Nyssa. ,
