Antonio Garcia

Obituary of Antonio Garcia

Antonio Garcia, known affectionately to friends and family as “Tony,” passed away peacefully on Friday March 22, 2019, at the age of 73.

Tony was born on Sunday June 10, 1945 in Los Fresnos, TX to Guillermo and Angelina Garcia. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, second mother Connie Garcia, brothers Willie Garcia and Alfonso Garcia and sister Emma Garcia.

Antonio’s surviving family members include his son Ramon Palmino Garcia; daughters, Marcy Wolf, Rosie Miller, Banesa Tona, Jeanet Rayo, Daisey Rayo and Estrella Rayo; brothers, Vinicio Garcia, Efrain Garcia, Ambrosio Garcia and Polo Garcia; sisters, Leticia Benavides, Emilia Flores, Irma Zamora, Sylvia Escalante and Nohemi Garcia; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tony will forever be fondly remembered by his large extended family and wide circle of friends.

Tony spent most of his life farming the fertile fields and valleys of Malheur County. He would plow, disc, plant, fertilize, water, weed and harvest until the sun went down, then finish off a hard day’s work with a long walk back to the shop across a dusty field in the dead of night. Early the following morning, he’d rise at the crack of dawn with a spring in his step and a smile on his face and do it all over again.

Tony enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as: spending time with family and friends, tinkering with motors and machinery, watching sports, traveling and going out to eat. His favorite sports teams were the Boise State Broncos and the Dallas Cowboys. Tony was also an avid dart player whose sure eye and unerring hand earned him several first-place tournament trophies throughout his life.

Perhaps Tony’s greatest quality was his kind and generous nature. When going out to eat with a group of family or friends, he could invariably be counted upon to pick up the check. Whenever a loved one found themselves out in the cold and needing a warm place to hang their hat, Tony’s door was forever open. If a relative or other acquaintance was going through a rough patch in life, Tony was always there to offer a sympathetic ear, kind word and a helping hand.

A celebration of life service will be on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1705 NW 4th Avenue, Ontario, Oregon. The public is welcome.
