Sorry to hear this. Worked for him and Doug when I was 17 on the potato and onion harvester sorting. Was the dirtiest job I’ve ever done in my life, but was also a fun time. Both him and Doug were amazing men. My favorite memory was when he had me and Vicki Zueger pick up stacks of burlap bags from the fields. It was the first time ever driving one of those big trucks and I was scared to death. Upon returning, we emptied the truck by hand and was almost done when Gary pulled up. He was laughing at us, we were tired, hot, dirty, and sweaty. We were so glad to be done with that and he knew it. After he stops laughing, he tells us “ya know that truck you’re emptying has a dump on it”? We looked at him and said with a few choice other words “you’re kidding right?” Nope, he wasn’t kidding. We had spent hours unloading those sacks by hand after loading them all by hand. Not once did he tell us that was a dump truck. He then showed us after the fact. We both wanted to kick his a**! Those were some fun times working out there for them. We were the only English speakers and the only women on the line picking clods. Great old memories on the Kamo Farm.

I had the pleasure of coaching Gary at TVCC in 1967 in football, wrestling and track.Gary was one of the reasons we were able to go undefeated and ranked 3rd in the nation! Gary was a great football player and teammate, but ,more importantly he was a great person. I have seen Gary on numerous occasions since his playing days,he still called me coach and was always genuinely interested in my life as well as my wife’s (who he would kiss on her cheek when he saw her)! To say he will missed doesn’t come close to know how much he will be missed by all. My deepest condolences to Nancy and to all of Gary’s precious family. Rest In Peace my friend,I love you.

Gary and I were teammates at Vale High School and roommates at Oregon State. I remember the car caravans going back to Corvallis after visits to Vale. OSU football games with our wine. Poker games on weekends with beer and cigars. Some of the best memories of my life! Never saw Gary in a down mood, it was uplifting. Hopefully we can resume our friendship down the road. Rest in peace! Tony P
