Lela Medairy is, was and always will be a very Special Lady to those who knew her.
I volunteered to give companionship to Lela about 2 1/2 years ago. By giving companionship to Lela I was able to do things for Lela that she couldn't do for herself. For example Lela loved having her nails polished. Well by being her companion I was able to give Lela manicures. She always told me she had the prettiest nails around. I also was able to spend time with Lela outside in the sunshine when weather permitted. She loved the outdoors but was not able to go outside because of her being confined to a wheelchair. This is where a companion comes in handy. We had such fun wheeling up and down the sidewalks, looking at the beautiful flowers and just talking about whatever we wanted to that day.
With Lela being the knowledgeable woman that she was, we spent hours and hours of discussing different subjects. I especially enjoyed conversing with Lela about her childhood days, her time serving our country by being in the service. She loved talking about her family and especially her niece Chris and how she enjoyed spending time with Chris during their visits.
I never once heard Lela complain about anything or anyone. She always was appreciative about the things people would do with her or for her. She always had a "thank you" for these people.
Lela and my daughter have the same birthday. One day we were discussing this and Lela asked me how old my daughter was. I told Lela my daughters age and Lela, in all seriousness says "Her and I are about the same age." We laughed about this many times. You gotta love this lady and her sense of humor.
When celebrating her 99th birthday Lela mentioned to me she could not believe how old she was. I mentioned that in those 99 years she had learned so much and would continue learning about things until her 100th birthday. She almost made it but God had other plans for her.
In still moments, may we remember the love and happy times we had with Lela~and find comfort in these memories.
I pray that our Merciful Father, be blessed to receive Lela into his presence and promised land.
