Mary Maddux

Obituary of Mary Lou Maddux

Mary Loudiene (Mary Lou) Kidd Roberts Maddux passed away on October 7, 2020. She was 97 years old.  She was born July 10, 1924, and was the daughter of Henry and Veda Kidd.  Mary was born in Marysville, Idaho.  She was the middle child.  Her siblings were Beth, Malon, Foryl, Lawrie and Gloria.

Mary Lou had those fun stories from that hard era.  The deep snow they had to walk through to go back and forth to school.  Sometimes over the tops of the fence posts and always in dresses.  She spoke of the pet squirrel that her mother would chase with a broom and it would sit at the top of the banister and chatter at her.  She told of picking up potatoes at a penny a basket so she could pay and take violin lessons.  She remembers being excited when they got electricity so they no longer had to study with the coal oil lamps.  They did not live far from Yellowstone Park.  She loved all the outing for picnics and especially loved Henry’s Lake and the smell of pine trees.

In high school, she was in charge of the school library.  She was quite proud she had read every book that was there.  She graduated from Ashton High School May 22, 1942.  She reminisced that all the boys she graduated with were killed in World War II.

She married Lee Jaques Roberts on August 22, 1942.  They were married 20 years.  They have five children, Michael, Pat, Thomas, Mila and Kelly.

She married Albert (Buck) Maddux on December 27, 1964.  They camped and fished together until his death on January 22, 1992.

Mary retired from the Argus Observer where she worked as a typesetter.  She typed many obituaries and even typed her own, and we are sorry Mom that we were unable to find it when you passed.

Mary Lou had a passion for genealogy, all flowers especially roses.  She loved gardening and taking care of her yard.

She is survived by Mike and Ginger Roberts and children, Tom and Sue Roberts and children, Mila and Jim Poyner and children.  Gloria and Jerry Atkinson and many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings except Gloria, her sons Pat and Kelly Roberts, granddaughter Tasha Hagans and great grandson Sam Taylor.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery in Annex/Ontario, Oregon at 11:00 a.m.

Mother 97 years is a lot of memories. We send you on your next journey with our love.
