Gary Roberton

Obituary of Gary Roberton

Gary James Roberton, son of William and Bernice Roberton, passed away peacefully and courageously on Nov. 9, 2021 surrounded by his loving and caring family. Gary was 77 years old.

Gary was born on Dec. 31, 1943 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In his youth he enjoyed playing ice hockey and at the age of nine his family moved to Salem, Oregon. After graduating from South Salem High School, where he enjoyed running on the cross-country team, Gary proudly served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps including a tour of duty in Vietnam. An accomplished computer programmer, Gary went on to graduate with honors from Eastern Oregon University and a career as a medical technologist.

Earlier in his life Gary enjoyed woodworking making many beautiful pieces for the family. He was a life-long guitar player who dearly enjoyed music and his daily dedicated bible studies. An avid Oregon Ducks fan and all things football he also enjoyed playing golf and tennis. There was always something very special and likable about Gary. He was an honorable, devout, and thoughtful person who loved his family and was dearly loved.

Gary is survived by his son, Stephen Roberton (Melissa); daughter, Melissa Hill (Jeff); brothers Dale Roberton (Sally) and Dennis Roberton (Gail); beloved Janie Roberton and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jocelyn. “A special thank-you to Susan and Henry for their dear friendship with Gary for so many years.” They thought of Gary as part of their family and they were so kind and generous to him. I know Gary enjoyed their friendship.

With deep gratitude and a sincere thank-you for the compassionate care given by Ancora Hospice.

Gary's memorial service will be at Riverside Cemetery Payette Id on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 at 2:00 pm. under the direction of Lienkaemper Chapel, Ontario.

Memorial donations may be made to Eugen Mission.
