We first met Jan in the summer of 1956 when we were trying to sell Kool Aide which no one wanted to buy, but everyone wanted to help sell. We soon learned that her family owned the local bakery which was next door to the jewelry store owned by our neighbor Kip’s family. She let us know right away that she really preferred to be called Jan and not Janette. We took swimming lessons together, and spent many afternoons at the pool, and later one of the gang’s homes. One of her favorite things to do was to go to the shelter, and take the dogs for a walk. She later got to adopt two of the dogs. She spent a lot of time at our house because her parents spent long hours at the bakery. I remember the summer Louise was pregnant with Patti, and how hot and miserable she looked working in the bakery, but Jan immediately fell in love with her little sister. Jan was the maid of honor at my first wedding, and I was a bridesmaid at her’s. We spent as much time together as we could living in two different towns. When she was hospitalized in Boise for a week, I got selfish enjoyment from it because I could visit her every day. I didn’t get to spend nearly as much time with her in the last few years, and I regret that. You always think there’s enough time until it runs out. Jan was a wonderful selfless person who was also always fun to be around. I will miss you old friend.
