Obituary of Jose M Martinez

Jose Mancha Martinez (July 07, 1937 - December 18, 2022) passed away peacefully in his Nyssa Oregon home. He was 85 years old.

Jose was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Manuel Martinez and Alicia Mancha. He was the 3rd of 11 children. He grew up migrating from Texas to Oregon every summer to work on the farms. He married Carmen Hernandez on November 03, 1963. Jose and Carmen settled in Nyssa when he started working full-time for the Amalgamated Sugar Company in the late 1960s.

Jose had five children with Carmen Martinez. They were married for 42 years until Carmen’s passing in 2006. He is survived by his five children. Jose Jr ( and Lois), Juan Manuel, Norma Alicia, Yolanda and Roberto (and Tom Baffrey). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

In his early years, Jose liked to travel to Texas to spend time with his siblings and golf after work. In his later years, his favorite pastime was traveling to different casinos. In his last year, he was able to make another trip to Texas and go gambling in casinos in Pendleton, Portland, Jackpot, and Las Vegas.

He spent his last years battling kidney failure, broken hips, and the loss of strength in his body but it did not stop him from making the trips around the country to see family and gamble. He continued to live life to the fullest.
