Obituary of Rafaela V Moreno

Rafaela Vega Moreno was born on October 24, 1942 in Nogales, Sonora. She was the eldest and even at a young age she was a natural caregiver, helping to raise her siblings. After meeting Carlos in Mexico, they settled there and grew their family. Later, they moved to Oregon and laid down roots.

Rafaela enjoyed being creative and displayed her talents in cooking and baking. Her grandchildren tell stories of the delicious aromas that always filled her home. Some of the classics were peanut brittle, cookies and of course her famous flour tortillas. She also enjoyed cross-stitch and embroidery.

She took her talents into her everyday life and worked as a cook in a number of local hospitals and care facilities. One of her greatest joys was sharing her cooking with others. Her other great joy was her family! She loved to be with her kids but her grandkids and great grandkids were truly her heart. Her face would light up when they ran in the house yelling “Abuela!” To say she left a legacy is an understatement in the number of lives she has touched.

She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on February 4, 2023. She had recently celebrated her 80th birthday.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Moreno; infant son, Guillermo; younger sister, Naomi; and nephew, Manuel Rosas Moreno. She is survived by her children Dan and Tina Moreno, George and Irma Moreno, Dolores and Pastor Ramos, Angie and Rick Olvera, Anna and Jose Diaz, and Theresa and David Clark. As well as dozens of grandkids and great grandkids.
