Obituary of Juan Manuel Martinez

Juan Manuel Martinez of Nyssa, Oregon died peacefully at the Veteran’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho on February 20th, 2023. He was surrounded by his two sons and surviving siblings when he was taken off life support. He was being treated for COVID and pneumonia.

Juan was born in Donna, Texas on July 18th, 1966 to Jose and Carmen (Hernandez) Martinez.  After many years of migrating from Texas to Oregon, the family settled in Nyssa, Oregon when Juan was 3. He attended Nyssa schools and graduated from Nyssa High School in 1984. Throughout his school years, he worked in agriculture and participated in the band, baseball, football, and wrestling. Following his graduation, he enlisted and served honorably in the United States Army. He was stationed in Knoxville, Kentucky.

Shortly after returning from service, he settled in Caldwell, Idaho where he had two sons. He worked at Ste. Chapelle Winery and Amalgamated Sugar Company before returning to his agricultural roots. Among other interests, Juan enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He faced many obstacles and challenges in his life and he inspired many by overcoming those challenges.

He is survived by his two sons, Terrence Anthony (Stephanie) and Brett Micheal (Katie); grandson, Daniel Anthony; brothers, Jose (Lois) and Robert (Tom); sisters, Norma Alicia and Yolanda; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog Capone.
