Obituary of Janette Shaw

                                                                     JANETTE SHAW

                                                       November 22, 1927 - May 21, 2023

In the early hours of May 21, 2023, Janette Shaw of Weiser, Idaho loving mom and grandma, passed away at the age of 95. At the end of her life, she was surrounded by family, laughter and love, just as she was through her life.  Janette was born November 22, 1927, to Walter Crockett and Lumma Phillips Crockett in Middleton, Idaho.  Coming along later and being the last of seven children, she was welcomed and spoiled beyond measure.  Being unable to pronounce her own name, she soon took on the nickname Nettie, by her family.  Janette attended school in Notus, Idaho, graduating in 1945.  After graduation her family was unable to afford college, so she went to work for Western Union because they offered all young girls free training.  Janette was soon to meet the love of her life, in a young man named Earl Shaw.  Earl and Janette were married on December 6, 1949, in Middleton, Idaho.  Janette always loved every baby she met so of course she could not wait to start a family.  On Earl’s birthday, September 9, 1951, their son, Scott was born.  Then they added two daughters, Becky in 1953 and Cindy in 1955.  Then in 1958, one day after Janette’s birthday, Robert was born, completing the family.  In 1959 Janette followed Earl.  In his dream of owning a ranch, to Indian Valley, Idaho.  Janette loved living in Indian Valley.  There she and Earl made lifelong friends that they treasured all their lives.  Neighbors would always be there to help any other neighbor in need which lead Janette to join the Indian Valley Improvement League.  After the kids got a little older Janette and her close friend, Mary Myers opened a small restaurant in one end of a working machine shop.  It is where the current restaurant at Alpine is located at the present time.  Everyone for miles around knew where to go for a hot cup of coffee, good conversation, and a slice of Janette’s homemade pie.  More pies were made by Janette than could ever be counted.  She always made sure to make a little extra dough for little hands to play with.  Several of the grandkid’s recall making “cookie lumps” from the left-over dough, they were usually a pasty grey by the time she was told they were done and ready to be baked.  Janette was a hard worker.  You never left Janette’s table hungry, and you never walked through her door without being offered something to eat or drink.  All of Janette’s grandkids remember Grandma’s pancakes in the shape of Mickey Mouse, a flower, or even a little boy’s request for a “spider man” pancake.  Janette raised a very large garden.  The strawberries that she grew in abundance were used to make jam, which was always a treat especially on her toasted homemade bread.  Janette canned all through the summer so the cellar would be full in the cold winter months when the garden was finished.  She sewed clothes for the kids, attended P.T.A. meetings, volunteered at the Indian Valley schoolhouse helping to prepare school lunches, went to Cattlemen Association meetings with Earl, and cooked for the hay crews.  If you asked any of the local kids where the best cookies were to be found, they would probably direct you to Janette’s kitchen.  From sunup to sundown Janette worked the hard ranch life never complaining.  All through Janette’s life she enjoyed a good game of pinochle or the challenge of a round of blackjack, whenever she could convince someone to take her to Wild Horse or Jackpot.  She also enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball.  Many years of her life she attended local craft shows, along with her two daughters, where she would sell her handmade items.  She loved the yearly family Christmas’s.  When Janette moved to Weiser to be close to family, she became involved in the Weiser Senior Center where she made many new friends.  Going to “Seniors” was the highlight of her day.  Janette was very proud of her family.  She was especially proud when her great grandson, Maisen joined the Airforce.  Her “Flyboy”. 

Janette was preceded in death by her Husband Earl.  Her parents Walter Crockett and Lumma Phillips Crockett.  Her sisters, Myrtle, Lyda, Marguerite, and Agnes.  Her brothers, Chester and Lorin.  A dear niece, Elaine Smith.  And her beloved great granddaughter, Karli Ann Tucker.

Surviving Janette are her four children, Scott (Rozanna) Shaw, Bennington, Idaho.  Becky (Tim) McKnight, Weiser, Idaho.  Cindy (Nick) Hylton and Robert Shaw of Caldwell, Idaho.  Six grandchildren. Fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.  Earl’s sister Willabelle and her husband Clay Friend, Boise, Idaho.  Plus, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff and crew at Indian Head Estates for taking care of our mother and grandmother.  With a special thank you to Renae and Connie.

Memorial donations may be given in Janette’s name to "The Childhood Cancer Fund".

A private family graveside was held in Council, Idaho where she was laid to rest with her beloved husband Earl.
