Obituary of Refugia Garcia

Refugia (Cuca, Ruth) Cruz Garcia of Weiser, ID went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 2, 2023. She was born June 11, 1937 to Regino Cruz and Leonor Camacho in Harlingen, TX. She was the youngest of ten children.

 

Mom lost her mom at the young age of 15.  This forced her to grow up quickly and fend for herself. She was a very independent and hard working woman. She worked in the fields as a migrant worker and packing sheds most of her life to provide for her family. She was extremely proud to have secured a loan by herself and buy her own house in 1973. With her perseverance and help from her kids, she owned her house free and clear.

 

Mom loved music and started singing and dancing from a young age and talked about going on wagon rides and getting together with local friends and family and have these “pachangas” where they would dance and sing. She loved to sing in the “Coritos” at church.

 

Mom had great faith in God and taught us early to believe in Him. She was a great mom and was very outgoing, had a giving heart and was always willing to help family, friends and strangers as she could. There was always a tortilla, taco or sopita to share. You always left her house well fed. We also know she shared her opinions openly. We will miss her dearly and she had a profound affect on all who knew her.

 

Left to treasure her memory is her compañero of 50+ years, Reynaldo Escobar, her children and their spouses, Janie Mejia, Pete (Letty) Garcia, Paco (Pam) Garcia and Anna Garcia, all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends - all who loved her very much.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jose, Miguel, Andres, Antonio, and sisters Maria, Elena, Jesusa, Dolores, Petra and a daughter Belia Garcia and grandson, Tito Tambunga.

 

Funeral arrangements made through Thomason Funeral Home, Weiser, ID. Church service at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Wednesday, December 13,  2023 at 11 am in Weiser, ID. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weiser, ID.
