Obituary of Bruce Dee Powell

Obituary of Bruce Dee Powell Our beloved father, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, Bruce Dee Powell (82), died peacefully February 7, 2024, in Weiser at his home he shared with Aunt Marjorie Bennion and sister Angela Powell, after battling lung cancer. He was born March 16, 1941, in Weiser, ID, the third of nine children born to Doyle Russell and Frances Benson Powell. Bruce was married to Mary Klum and had three daughters born to this union; Natalie Powell, Redding, CA; Laurie Renee Powell Deiter, Lakeview, OR; Lisha Ann Powell Brown (Mike), deceased 2016. Bruce served in the Navy from 1959-1963. He served on the USS Breckinridge Troop Transport Ship (San Francisco, CA) and USS Hector-Repair Ship (Long Beach, CA), Bruce was a 2nd Class Petty Officer after completing schooling and getting the highest marks in his class. He was honorably discharged. Mary and Bruce divorced in 1965. He then met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Belcher and they were married Aug 20, 1966, Bend, OR. Bruce and Barb adopted two children, Mandi Jean Powell Turner, deceased-2023, and Bruce Dee Powell, Jr “BJ” (Christy), Red Bluff, CA. Bruce and Barb celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary in 2016 and soon after Barb passed away from cancer. They had a wonderful marriage and always put each other first. They loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, anywhere there was water! Bruce and Barb were also bowlers and were on many bowling teams that won championships. As a General Contractor, they lived in many states following the construction trade (OR, WA, CA) working with his dad and brothers much of that time. The last 20+yrs of his life, he and Barb managed the Palm Royal Apartment complex in Red Bluff, CA. All his family meant so much to him. He moved  back to Weiser the last 2 ½ yrs. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was sealed to his wife in the Meridian Temple in May of 2022.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, daughters Lisha Brown and Mandi Turner. Also, his parents, Doyle and Frances Powell, brothers Don Powell, Bob Powell and sister, Nicki Christensen.

 He is survived by daughters, Natalie Powell, Laurie Deiter, and son BJ (Christy); Grandchildren, Johnny Brown, Robert Brown, Stacie Pradmore, Mitchell Deiter, Kyle Deiter, Kody Turner, Zachary Turner, and Jayden Powell. Great grandchildren, Aspen Dooley, Kelsie Pradmore, Sophia Deiter, Kennedy Deiter, Knox Deiter, Issac Brown, Austin Brown, Cohen Brown, Emmett Brown. Also, his Aunt Marjorie Bennion, and siblings: Cheryl Olmstead (Dave), Blake Powell (Toni), Angela Powell, Janice Hamilton (Eddie), and Gary Powell (Kalynn). And many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

 A funeral will be held at the LDS Church on Fri, Feb. 16th @ 11:00. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery to follow service. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Veteran’s Hospital in Boise, Thomason Funeral Home staff, and the Weiser 2nd Ward Bishop Anthony Spencer and the Relief Society Presidency and sisters for all your love and support at this time of loss.
