Obituary of Betty Jo Raney-Emmons

Betty Raney Emmons age 90, of Weiser Idaho, passed away March 13, peacefully at home after saying goodbye to those she loved.

Betty was born January 1, 1931 in Oregon to parents Chas and Ida Wyman. After graduating from Weiser High School in 1949, Betty worked as a secretary for an insurance company in Boise until marrying Howard Raney in 1956. Along with their one daughter Darla, they built a wonderful life that revolved around good cattle, better friends, and a deep love for family. After Howard’s passing, Betty would eventually marry Bob Emmons in 1997, building a beautiful home on the golf course where they shared their love for 19 years until his passing in 2016.

Betty lived a rich and full life, but there were three things in particular that were a constant: cooking, gardening, and grandkids. It didn’t matter if the meal was for a hungry crew working cows, or a formal holiday affair, she made sure each meal was fabulous and that no one left hungry. She taught us the value of cooking, often passing on going out to dinner stating, “We can make a perfectly good meal right here.”

A love of flowers and gardening was always evident at Betty’s home. Whether you were just driving by, or lucky enough to take a stroll through the yard; the beauty and attention to detail was always astounding. Over the years, the garden got smaller and the flowerbeds larger and her love of big blossoms of pinks, purples, and blues continued. Forever thrifty, Betty could not imagine buying new geraniums each year, and would try and overwinter all she had, showing us time and again that it could be done.

Betty was a proud grandmother, always in attendance at the un-countable events over the years. She wouldn’t always agree on the activity (wrestling and rodeo come to mind), but her support and unconditional love was always evident. Betty had one main rule for the grandkids- “Don’t you lie to your grandma”- and as long as the rule wasn’t broken, life was good! Being able to have Great Grandkids later in life was just icing on the cake, and she loved any chance she could get to wrap her arms around them.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Chas and Ida Wyman, three siblings, Sanford, Margie Gilderoy, and Marvin, and two spouses, Howard Raney and Robert Emmons.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Darla(Jim) Harberd, four Grandchildren, Chad(Kaye) Harberd, Tobe(Mikaila) Harberd, Lacey Mackenzie-Yraguen, Chase(Sami Jo) Harberd. She was blessed with six Great Grandchildren: Chloe, Stella, Ruby, Oli, Sam, and Blakely.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on April 3rd 2021 at Hillcrest Cemetery. Following the service will be a luncheon to celebrate the life of Betty at the Weiser Golf Course.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Jennifer Hansen, the staff at The Cottages, and Canyon Hospice Care for all of their kindness and support.

Betty askes that remembrances be given to the Hope House in Marsing, Idaho or charity of your choice.
